Kansas man working roadside struck by truck has died

MONTGOMERY COUNTY— A Kansas man died from injuries in an accident just before 7a.m. Thursday in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County deputies along with Independence Fire and EMS responded to County Road 3706 and West Oak Street where they  located a man later identified as 60-year-old Marty Raney of Independence, Kansas, who was not responsive in the ditch, according to Sheriff Ron Wade.

First responders attended to Raney's injuries and EMS transported him to Labette ER in Independence. Later deputies learned the Raney died from his injuries. 

Witnesses told deputies, that Raney was struck by a pickup truck while he was collecting trash as part of his job responsibilities, according to Wade. The accident remains under investigation. The sheriff's office released no additional details.
