LYON COUNTY —Two people including a Kansas Sheriff's Deputy were injured in an accident just before 8a.m. Thursday in Lyon County.
A 2021 Lyon County Sheriff's Department Chevy Silverado driven by Deputy Benjamin Garrett Folks, 24, Emporia, was eastbound on U.S. 56 at the city limits of Allen, Kansas, with lights and sirens activated. The deputy was headed to another accident involving a trash truck that overturned in a ditch, according to the Lyon County Sheriff.
The sheriff deputy's pickup struck a 2006 Ford Fusion driven by Bryer Douglas Scales, 16, Reading, who was making a left turn.
EMS transported Folks to Newman Hospital in Emporia and Scales to Stormont Vail in Topeka. Folks was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
