Boy injured in shooting in Salina has died; 15-year-old arrested

SALINE COUNTY —A boy injured in a shooting in Salina has died. Just before 9:30p.m. Saturday, the boy was pronounced deceased at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, according to Salina Police Lt. Andrew Ziegler.

On Friday evening, Salina Police Communications received a report of a shooting at a home in 100 block of Raleigh Street in Salina, according to a media release.

Officers responded and located a boy with a single gunshot wound. EMS transported the boy to the Salina Regional Health Center where he was listed in critical condition. The boy was later transported to a Wichita hospital. 

 A 15 year-old male acquaintance of the victim was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center in Geary County on requested charges of Aggravated Battery and Criminal use of a Weapon, according to a statement from Salina Police.

As the investigation into the incident continues the Salina Police Department will be working with the Saline County Attorney’s Office on additional charges.

In the interest of clarification and accuracy the Salina Police Department corrected earlier information provided regarding the location of the shooting incident. The incident occurred at a private single family residence located within the 100 block of Raleigh Street and was not associated with the Southwind Apartments complex in any way. The Police Department apologizes for any confusion or concern which arose from the previous information.
