Summer leisure programming from the Great Bend Recreation Commission for youth and adults have been in full swing since June 15. The later start date came after the Rec Center shut down all their activities in late March because of COVID-19.

GBRC Enrichment/Activity Center Director Garet Fitzpatrick recognized his staff that has worked hard to maintain social distancing, implement additional hand washing, cleaning and disinfecting supplies.

"Paints and paintbrushes are given to kids at the tables," said Fitzpatrick. "Kids no longer come up and grab their supplies. After class everything is disinfected."

The majority of the GBRC leisure classes are held at the Rec Center or Activity Center this summer and have been extended until early August because of the later start.

"Staff is doing a really good job in taking extra time to clean," Fitzpatrick said.

In one of the main conference rooms to hold classes, there are 10 tables spaced out. Fitzpatrick mentioned staff is placing one child per table, meaning there can only be a maximum of 10 children in the classroom.
