Woman dead after violent head-on crash in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY —One person died in an accident just after 5p.m. Tuesday in Kansas City.

A Honda Pilot was eastbound on 43rd Street, at a high rate of speed, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.

As the Honda crossed over Virginia Street, the vehicle went airborne. As the Honda landed down the hill, the Honda struck a black Mitsubishi head-on.

After striking the Mitsubishi, the Honda struck two wooden utility poles. The second pole was split, bent, but still standing. The Honda then flipped onto its roof. The driver of the Mitsubishi was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver and passenger in the Honda were transported to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Evergy responded to the scene for the utility poles. This is Fatality #49 in Kansas City compared to 39 at this time last year, according to  DiMartino.  Name of the woman who died has not been released.
