SEDGWICK COUNTY- A Kansas man was sentenced last week for a fatal stabbing in July.
Pedro Hernandez,28, was sentenced to almost 9-years in prison for fatally stabbing 30-year-oldShawn Gomez, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
Just after 2p.m. July 8, police responded to the the 2600 Block of East Harry in Wichita and found Gomez with a stab wound to his chest, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo. EMS transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation revealed that Gomez and the suspect were involved in a physical altercation when Hernandez stabbed Gomez and fled.
Hernandez is also required to register as a violent offender and have post-release supervision, according to the district attorney's office.
