Bat Cats get needed sweep of Haysville

The Great Bend Bat Cats had three days off to let the sting of a four game sweep at the hands of the Cheney Diamond Dawgs sink in. Tuesday night they took out some of that frustration on Haysville, taking two from the Aviators on the road.

The Bat Cats swept the Sunflower Collegiate League double header, winning game one 5-3 before completing the sweep with a 6-5 win in game two.

Great Bend used one big inning in each game to secure the victories. In game one it was a four run third inning that help them build a 5-0 lead and allow them to cruise to the 5-3 win. In game two, the Bat Cats scored all six of their runs in the second inning to erase an early 2-0 deficit as they hung on for the 6-5 win.

The twinbill sweep improved the Cats record to 11-10 overall and 10-8 in the SCL while Haysville slipped to 3-10 in league play.

The two teams play another double header Wednesday night in Great Bend starting at 5:30 p.m. at Al Burns Field.
