Governor Laura Kelly sent a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) asking for a major presidential disaster declaration due to damages from severe storms with tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, flash flooding and riverine flooding that occurred Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2026, according to a statement from the Adjutant General’s Department.
Governor Kelly has requested the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program statewide and the Public Assistance Program – Categories A through G, for the following counties: Cloud, Ford, Greeley, Hamilton, Jewell, Lincoln, Marshall, Mitchell, Morris, Osborne, Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee. Damage to public infrastructure, utility systems, and transportation networks generated significant response and recovery challenges for affected local governments, many of which are small rural jurisdictions with limited financial and operational resources.
“Federal assistance is critical to helping these Kansas communities repair damaged infrastructure and recover from these devastating storms,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “We will continue supporting our local partners as they rebuild.”
