Pool season is approaching and the Great Bend Recreation Commission is getting their lifeguards trained and ready to go to staff the Great Bend Wetlands Waterpark.
Aquatic Director Megan Hammeke mentioned she will have just over 30 lifeguards hired and then approximately 10 more employees that help with the concession stand.
GBRC offered lifeguard certification courses at Barton
Community College’s pool but had to switch venues following a problem at the
pool.
"Throughout spring break, unfortunately the college had issues with their pool and the chemical in it," said Hammeke. "Everyone got kicked out. I called the Holiday Inn at the last minute to see if we could use their pool. They closed down their pool to let us use it. I was very appreciative of that."
GBRC offered two lifeguard certification classes with 18 participating. There
were 19 participants for the lifeguard recertification course.
