CHASE COUNTY—A former Kansas mayor who in April admitted to election fraud charges is now being held in a jail in eastern Kansas.

On Wednesday, 55-year-old Jose Ceballos was taken into custody by immigration authorities in Wichita after acknowledging last year that he had voted in elections despite not being a U.S. citizen.

According to online jail records, Ceballos was booked into the Chase County Detention Center in Cottonwood Falls.

He resigned as mayor of Coldwater in December while facing the state charges over voting as a noncitizen.
