KANSAS CITY —Authorities are working to determine the cause of an apartment fire in Kansas City.

Just after 4p.m. Friday, crews responded to the report of an apartment fire in the 4300 block of Mercier, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

First arriving crews observed heavy smoke coming from the building. The fire started in the basement of the structure and extended up the interior walls.

Searches of the building came back all clear. Occupants were able to evacuate on their own. Eight units in total have been affected by this fire, either from fire or smoke damage. Power was shutoff to the entire building. There were no injuries were reported, according to Hopkins.
