Tierell Washington, 31, was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder and aggravated battery, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just after 7a.m. June 16,  Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received a call of a shooting in the 2300 block of N Jackson in Wichita, according to a media release.

Wichita police, along with Sedgwick County EMS and the Wichita Fire Department, responded to the scene and located a 51-year-old man with a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

While at the scene, investigators identified a suspect vehicle and located that vehicle utilizing FLOCK license plate reader technology.

Officers with the Violent Crime Response Team contacted the male suspect, later identified as Washington, and took him into custody. As officers were attempting to detain him, Washington ingested an unknown substance in a small bag.

Sedgwick County EMS was requested and transported Washington to an area hospital. While being transported, he became unresponsive and was hospitalized in extremely critical condition.

When Washington was arrested, he was in possession of a firearm, according to police. Washington was booked into jail on June 19 and is being held on a $250,000 bond, according to online jail records.
