The 15 bikes have arrived and now the City of Hoisington is getting ready to implement their new bike share program. The bikes will be spread out among three stations located throughout town to allow the public to check out a bike for free and ride it for a day.

Hoisington City Manager Jonathan Mitchell says a partnership with several entities collected the funding necessary for the project.

"We are still working out the details," said Mitchell. "We are trying to get all of the bikes branded so they look similar. They will be painted the same color with the same decals."

The bicycles were purchased from Golden Belt Bicycle in Great Bend and will include four single-speed bikes branded as “Cardinal Cruisers” at each of the three checkout stations. A pair of tandem bikes and one side-by-side bike will also be available to ride.

"We are planning what the rollout will look like," Mitchell said. "We are excited about that."

The checkout stations will be located near the city office, Rodeway Inn & Suites Hotel and the Hoisington Activity Center. Interested individuals can check out the bikes by showing their identification and will have a day before needing to return it. Citizens will have to be at least 18 years old to check out the bikes and at least 12 to operate them.
