He was only 16-years-old when he killed a man in Wichita

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas teen who killed a man in 2024 is going to prison.

On Tuesday Judge Jeffrey Goering, sentenced 18-year-old Victor Rivas-Banuelos to 320 months in prison for a shooting that killed 19-year-old David Hernandez-Cervantez and injured a 22-year-old man, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

 Rivas-Banuelos was just 16 at the time of the crime that occurred in December of 2024 in Sim Park in Wichita. He was also sentence to an additional 36 months of post-release supervision.

 In February he entered a guilty plea for the crimes, according to the district attorney's office.

The district attorney charged him as an adult for first-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal use of a weapon.
