Kan. sex offender hospitalized after crash during high-speed chase

WABAUNSEE COUNTY —A Manhattan man was injured in an accident while attempting to elude law enforcement just after 2p.m. Thursday in Wabaunsee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Chevy Cruz driven by Sangla M. Stevens, 31, Manhattan, was  northbound on Northwest Snokomo Frontage Road attempting to elude law enforcement.

The car was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver  lost control on the gravel. The car left the roadway. It struck a tree and a telephone box.

EMS transported Stevens to the hospital in Wamego and he is being held in the Riley County Jail, according to online jail records. Stevens has previous convictions for sexual battery, aggravated battery and criminal restraint, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

He was also not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
