JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities and USD 233 School District officials are investigating after a student brought a loaded handgun to school.
Just after 11 a.m. Friday, school administrators notified an Olathe Kansas Police Department School Resource Officer about a 16-year-old student who may have had a gun in his backpack, according to Police Sergeant John Moncayo.
The School Resource Officer contacted the student in the cafeteria and was able to take control of the student and separate him from his backpack.
The officer found a loaded handgun in the student’s backpack. No one involved in or near the incident was injured and at no time did the student threaten anyone with the gun. The student was subsequently taken into custody, according to Moncayo.
Th remains under investigation by the Olathe Police Department.
