Kan. man dead, 2 injured after SUV rollover accident

NORTON COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 10a.m. Thursday in Norton County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by  Melanie A Cotton, 29, Lenora, was southbound on U.S. 283 two and one half miles south of Norton.

The SUV traveled off the roadway to the right, returned to the road, crossed the center line. When the driver overcorrected, the SUV rolled multiple times and came to rest in the northbound lane.

EMS transported a passenger identified as Senquay R Montes, 20, Lenora, to the Norton County Hospital where he died.

EMS also transported Melanie Cotton and a second passenger Betty L. Cotton, 75,  Lenora, to the Norton County Hospital. Montes was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
