TOPEKA —Kansas Governor Laura Kelly's daily press conference Tuesday afternoon lasted 20 minutes. She opened the discussion with the latest coronavirus numbers from the KDHE. The agency reported 37 more positive virus cases and 7 additional deaths Tuesday.
Kelly confirmed the KDHE has expanded their criteria for virus testing. Only two symptoms are now required and you don't need to have a fever to get tested.
The Governor also mentioned and answered questions about the large budget deficit facing the state. State agencies have already been asked to freeze non-critical or non-covid-19 necessary hires.
While discussing budget cuts, one reporter reminded Kelly she is the education governor. Kelly said she is committed to education as a critical service but could not say whether K-12 education will ultimately face cuts.
