It’s getting closer to beer thirty in Great Bend.

The founders of Dry Lake Brewing checked off another legal formality Monday night to get one step closer to opening a microbrewery in downtown Great Bend.

The brewery will be located at 1305 Main Street, the old Brown’s Shoe Fit, and per state statute, a brewery cannot be located within 200 feet of a school, college or church. City Attorney Bob Suelter says The River of Life Church is located at 1219 Main Street, roughly 151 feet away from the proposed brewery.

Suelter presented the City Council an ordinance to waive the restriction for licensed premises.

"I prepared ordinance 4354 which allows the state to issue a microbrewery license for that location provided all the other requirements are met," said Suelter.

The City Council approved the waived restriction.

Dry Lake Brewing is sorting through all the COVID-19 gathering restrictions like every other business, but are hoping to open the taproom and restaurant to the public by mid-summer 2020.
