UNDATED (AP) — IndyCar has adjusted its schedule again because of the coronavirus pandemic. The doubleheader at Detroit scheduled for the end of May has now been canceled. IndyCar will make up the two dates by hosting doubleheaders at both Iowa Speedway and Laguna Seca in California. The series will also add an October race on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to give it 15 events on the 2020 calendar. The season was suspended 48 hours before the opening race. IndyCar is now tentatively scheduled to start its season June 6 at Texas Motor Speedway.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The decision to take over the Texas women's basketball program was profoundly personal for Vic Schaefer. He's leaving a Mississippi State program that's considered a national title contender next season. The 59-year-old Texas native returns to the city where he was born, went to college and launched his coaching career. Schaefer said Monday he plans to have the Longhorns competing for the national championship. Texas hasn't won the national title since 1986 under Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt.

UNDATED (AP) — The NFL draft is not staying in Vegas. Instead, it will be conducted in a virtual format, with team personnel working from their homes. The draft originally was scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, but the NFL canceled all public events last month as a safeguard against the coronavirus. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s procedures for the April 23-25 draft include no group gatherings.

UNDATED (AP) — They're preparing for what a resumption of the season that was shut down March 11 could look like in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The ideas are many, from a shortened version of the remaining schedule played without fans to the very real possibility of jumping straight into the playoffs to ensure a season is completed before the end of summer.

UNDATED (AP) — It has no stadiums or arenas, but golf is no less impacted by the fallout from the virus outbreak. The Houston Open has been rescheduled for November 2 and is once again, a week ahead of the Masters. The spring major tournament in Georgia has been moved to two weeks before Thanksgiving. And for the first time since 1945, July’s British Open has been canceled. It will be held next year at Royal St. George.

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago’s eight pro teams and mayor Lori Lightfoot are teaming up to encourage residents to stay home to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs and White Sox as well as the WNBA’s Sky, MLS’ Fire and National Women’s Soccer League’s Red Stars are joining with the mayor in the “We Are Not Playing” campaign.

DETROIT (AP) — Hall of Famer Al Kaline has died. The outfielder, who spent his entire 22-season with the Detroit Tigers, was 86. A friend of Kaline’s says the beloved No. 6, known affectionately as “Mr. Tiger,” died Monday. Kaline was the youngest player to win the American League batting title in 1955 at age 20 with a .340 batting average. The right fielder was a 15-time All-Star, won 10 Gold Gloves and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1980 in his first year of eligibility.
