JOHNSON COUNTY —Health officials in northeastern Kansas have confirmed the state's seventh and eighth cases of COVID-19. The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment said in a news release Saturday that the presumptive positive case is a woman in her 50s associated with Johnson County Community College.
The department says it's the region's first known case to have been contracted locally. The woman is hospitalized and “doing well." Her family members have been quarantined, and those who may have been exposed by contact with the woman are being contacted by the health department.
The other case is a man in Franklin County, according to the KDHE.
Officials in Franklin County have released no additional details on their patient. The county health department recommended that all inside events with over 100 people be cancelled. Franklin County is located in eastern Kansas south of Lawrence. It is the fourth county in Kansas with a positive case of caronavirus along with Butler, Wyandotte and Johnson County, according to the KDHE.
