Great Bend Fire Chief Luke McCormick has been able to participate in a lot of fun experiences as a first responder, but last weekend he was able to enjoy a perk of being a season ticket holder for the Kansas City Chiefs.
McCormick and his wife Clarissa were given the opportunity to be on the field to help hold the 100-yard-long American flag before the game against the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Playoffs on Jan. 12, 2020.
The McCormicks were among 150 people that rolled out the full-field flag during the performance of the national anthem.
"While we are down in the tunnel waiting, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid comes down and tight end Travis Kelce stops to talk to us," said McCormick. "We down on the field and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is right there with us."
As Chiefs season ticket holder, you can earn points that you can submit for “fan experiences.” The McCormicks were selected to participate in the flag holding that started at 9:30 a.m. with multiple rehearsals before the 2:05 p.m. kickoff.
McCormick could not believe how loud it was down on the field.
"It was so incredibly loud that I did not even know they did a flyover, because you could not hear the jets," said McCormick. "When the crowd starts cheering, you hear nothing."
The McCormicks will be back in the stands this Sunday as the Chiefs take on the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium.
