Kan. school bus crash injures student, vehicle driver

CHEROKEE COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident just after 7a.m. Tuesday in Cherokee County.


The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Kia Sorento driven by Danra Kayette Green, 43, Quapaw, OK., was  westbound on U.S. 166 three miles east of Baxter Springs. The vehicle rear-ended a USD 404 Riverton Blue Bird school bus driven by Jeffrey T. Adams, 55, Baxter Springs, that had stopped to pickup a student.


EMS transported Green and one of the 13 students on the bus identified as Christian Smith, 13, Riverton, to the hospital in Joplin. 


Green was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.


The patrol said the bus and the vehicle both were severely damaged.
