HARVEY COUNTY —A Kansas man jailed after allegedly shooting his wife is facing updated requested charges.
On Tuesday, the city of Newton reported 74-year-old Peggy Altum died over the weekend.
Just before 2a.m. Friday, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2000 block of Terrace Drive in Newton, according to a media release from from police.
A man at the house identified as 70-year-old Edward Altum reported his 74-year-old wife had been shot and refused to answer any further questions.
EMS transported the victim to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Police arrested Edward Altum, the victim's husband. He remains jailed on an updated requested charge of first-degree-murder.
Police also recovered a gun at the scene, according to the release.
