KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — At age 30 and after five suspensions handed out by the NFL for violations of the league’s substance abuse policies that cost him three full seasons, wide receiver Josh Gordon describes his landing with the Kansas City Chiefs as “a dream destination.” Excelling on the field rarely has been an issue for Gordon. He earned All-Pro honors in 2013 with Cleveland, leading the league with 1,646 receiving yards. In 64 NFL games spread over parts of nine seasons, Gordon totaled 4,263 receiving yards. The suspensions, however, have served as countless speed bumps during stops with Cleveland, New England and Seattle.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Dodgers ace Max Scherzer got the last three outs in the thrilling Game 5 of the NL Division Series and is now lined up to throw the first pitch for Los Angeles in the NL Championship Series. With only one full day off in between. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he aims to start Scherzer at Atlanta tonight even after the three-time Cy Young Award winner earned his first pro save in a 2-1 victory over San Francisco on Thursday night. Max Fried (freed) is set to start for the Braves.

HOUSTON (AP) — It’s Game 2 of the AL Championship Series tonight in Houston. The Astros rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox 5-4 in last night’s opener. Carlos Correa slammed a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh inning. Jose Altuve (al-TOO’-vay) tied the game with a two-run blast and added a sacrifice fly that provided the final margin. Red Sox outfielder Kike (KEE’-kay) Hernandez homered twice. Nathan Eovaldi (eh-VAHL’-dee) starts tonight for Boston opposite rookie Luis Garcia.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — The last two unbeaten teams in the Southeastern Conference square off today when No. 1 Georgia hosts No. 11 Kentucky. The Bulldogs rose to the top of the rankings last week when Alabama was upset at Texas A&M 41-38. Kentucky is off to its first 6-0 start since 1950 and is 4-0 in SEC play for the first time since 1977. The Wildcats are seeking their fourth win all-time against a No. 1-ranked opponent and their first in 14 years since defeating top-ranked LSU in triple overtime in 2007.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Oklahoma State is 5-0 for the first time since 2015. Now, the 12th-ranked Cowboys will try to win three consecutive games over Top-25 teams for the first time in program history when they visit No. 25 Texas. Oklahoma State won its first two Big 12 games against ranked teams before last week’s open date. No. 19 BYU gets an early Big 12 preview when it plays at Baylor. The Cougars accepted an invitation last month to join the Big 12. They will start conference play in 2023.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Keith Mitchell is the runaway leader through two rounds of the CJ Cup in Las Vegas. One day after matching his career low with a 62, Mitchell followed that with an 8-under 64 to build a five-shot lead going into the weekend at The Summit Club. Mitchell was at 18-under 126, breaking by five shots his best 36-hole score on tour. Jordan Spieth (speeth) had eight birdies and an eagle to counter a few soft bogeys for a 65. He’s part of a second-place tie with Adam Scott, Harry Higgs and Seonghyeon Kim.
