Former Kan. police officer accused of rape, human trafficking

LYON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a former police officer for alleged sex crimes.

On Thursday,  the Emporia Police Department arrested 33-year-old Russell Patterson Jr., on requested charges of Aggravated Human Trafficking and Rape, according to Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattis.

Patterson had been an Emporia Police Officer from March 13, 2017, to December 6, 2017. He was released from employment from the Emporia Police Department before he completed his training with the Emporia Police Department.

The charges are from a current investigation and are not related to his time with the Emporia Police.
