KC shooting suspect arrested after chase and crash

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man faces multiple felony charges for a shooting on Saturday in the Northeast area of Kansas City, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Abdisalaan H. Mohamud, 29, faces Assault in the 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Resisting a Lawful Stop.

According to court records,  Kansas City Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Independence Avenue on a reported shooting.

Officers found a victim near 9th and Woodland Avenue who had been shot when a red van pulled up next to the victim's vehicle, leaned out of the window with a rifle and began firing in the victim's vehicle.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses helped the officers locate the truck. Officers attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle's driver, later identified as Mohamud, fled. Officers chased the vehicle at high speeds until Mohamud crashed his vehicle at Truman Road and Van Brunt Blvd. and was taken into custody.

He is being held on a $200,000 bond.
