Sheriff IDs Kan. drowning victim who was in area closed to swimmers

DOUGLAS COUNTY — Members of the Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery Team recovered the body of 23-year-old Cesar Cardenas Olivas at Clinton Lake Saturday evening, according to Sheriff's Department spokesman George Diepenbrock.

Just before 7p.m. Saturday, deputies and first responders were called to the lake after a report that friends saw Olivas struggling in the water.

The Doughals County Underwater Search and Recovery Team responded to the Bloomington Beach area.  According to preliminary information, Olivas and his friends, about 5p.m., were in the area recommended to be closed to swimmers due to flooding before he went missing.

Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical and game wardens with Kansas Wildlife and Parks also responded to the scene.
