Bicyclist had beer in one hand before injured in crash into truck

KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accident that occurred just before 3:30p.m. Friday in Kansas City.

 A man riding a spray painted blue Western Flyer 10-speed bicycle was southbound on the northbound one-way Chestnut Avenue at 39th Street, according to Police Captain Corey Carlisle. 

The man was only holding onto the bicycle with one hand, he had his "Natural Light" beer in the other.

Witnesses advised that the bicyclist never slowed down or attempted to stop.  He traveled right into the intersection and struck the front side of an eastbound Ford F250.

The rider was ejected from the bicycle. He was not wearing a helmet, according to Carlisle. EMS transported the man to an area hospital, with critical injuries. The driver and passenger in the Ford F250 were not injured in the collision.
