With Barton County makes progress with the 800-megahertz expansion project, a 6-pack repeater will be installed on the tower at 168 South 281 Highway in Great Bend. There are currently 3 UHF repeaters on that tower that will be removed, with those leases ending.

911 Director Dena Popp says the 5-year lease is a brand-new contract with MRT Communications, separate from the other current leases, and the repeater will sit 250 feet up on the 300-foot tower.

“The lease with Mobile Radio is in the amount of $6000. It’s a five-year lease, the amount will remain the same for those five years, and then we have the option to renew after that.”

The addition of the repeater will alleviate coverage issues and allow for paging. The cost of the lease will be covered by the 911 Tax Fund.
