GRANT COUNTY —USD 214 Ulysses Superintendent Corey Burton reported on social media the staff member accused of bringing a gun into the school district's middle school would not be allowed back in school buildings.

Law enforcement and officials with the school district continue investigating a gun found on a staff member at the middle school in Ulysses.

On Friday, school district officials notified the Ulysses police department of a staff member in possession of a gun at Kepley Middle School, 113 N Colorado Street in Ulysses, according to Police Chief Ron Vagher.

Police responded to the school and worked with the cooperation of USD 214 officials to identify, interview and take a person of interest into custody.  Police also recovered a firearm.

This incident is separate from a reported school threat on Thursday. Ulysses police are investigating both.  Police will release the name of the person of interest after formal charges are filed this week.
