Kan. man with numerous DUI convictions caught with meth

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new allegations after a traffic stop.

Just 1a.m. Feb. 21, a  Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle near U.S. Highway 75 and 118th Road, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

During the traffic stop the deputy discovered illegal drug contraband.  Thomas Carl Schmitt, 54, of Topeka was arrested on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Schmitt has three or more convictions for driving under influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
