PITTSBURGH (AP) — The entire three-game series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis that was set to begin Monday night at Busch Stadium has been postponed while the Cardinals deal with a COVID-19 outbreak. There have now been 27 games postponed by Major League Baseball because of coronavirus concerns. The Cardinals have not played since July 30 and have had 13 games scrapped. Miami and Philadelphia each had seven games postponed earlier and have returned to the field since the disruptions. MLB said Sunday night that the league and the Cardinals “believe it is prudent to conduct additional testing while players and staff are quarantined before the team returns to play.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Hunter Dozier hit a two-run single in his first at-bat since testing positive for COVID-19, prized prospect Brady Singer earned his first major league win and the Kansas City Royals swept the Minnesota Twins 4-2. The Royals won their fourth in a row overall. The Twins lost all three at Kauffman Stadium and have dropped four straight. Dozier, who hit 26 home runs last year and tied for the big league lead with 10 triples, hadn’t played this season while recovering from the virus. He quickly delivered, putting the Royals ahead 2-0 in the first inning.

UNDATED (AP) — The Power Five conference commissioners met to discuss the growing concern over whether the coming college football season will be played. And players took to social media to urge leaders to let them play. Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says no decisions on the season have been made, but conceded that the outlook has not improved in recent weeks. The Big Ten university presidents and chancellors were also having a previously unscheduled meeting, a person with knowledge of the meeting told The Associated Press. All this activity comes a day after the Mid-American Conference became the among 10 that play at the highest tier of Division I college football to cancel fall sports, including football.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Collin Morikawa eagled the par-4 16 and closed with a 6-under 64 to win the PGA Championship by two shots over Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey. Johnson carried the lead into the final round but fell behind with a bogey on the par-5 14. Jason Day, Matthew Wolff, Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau and Scottie Scheffler shared third at minus-10.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — The Toronto Raptors were able to wrap up the No. 2 seed in the NBA’s Eastern Conference playoffs while preventing the Memphis Grizzlies from wrapping up a spot in the Western Conference play-in series. Pascal Siakam (see-A’-kam) scored 26 points to help the Raptors beat the Grizzlies, 108-99. Norman Powell chipped in 16 points and Kyle Lowry added 15 as Toronto wrapped up its fifth consecutive season with at least 50 wins.

UNDATED (AP) — The Indians sent Zach Plesac back to Cleveland on Sunday in a rental car after the young right-hander violated team rules and Major League Baseball’s coronavirus protocols. A club official told the Associated Press the 25-year-old Plesac went out with friends in Chicago on Saturday night following his win against the White Sox. The person added that the team got Plesac a car so he wouldn’t be on a plane with teammates and staff in the event he contracted the virus.
