Prison time after deadly Kan. crash when he was 17-years-old

JOHNSON COUNTY —A Kansas teen is going to prison for a deadly crash in May of 2023.

Last week Judge Brenda Cameron sentenced Zakary Ignowski, 19, to just over 8-years in prison, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's office.

Just after 4:30p.m. May 14 of last year, Ignowski was involved in a two vehicle crash at Blackfish Parkway and Lackman Road, according to Shawnee, Kansas police. The other drivers Leland R. Scott, 71, died at the scene. A 69-year-old passenger was transported for treatment of critical injuries.

 Ignowksi who was just 17 at the time of the crash was driving with breath alcohol concentration of .08 or more, according to court documents. The district attorney filed a motion requesting a waiver to adult status in the case.
