JEFFERSON COUNTY—One person died in an accident just after 2p.m. Friday in Jefferson County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Micaleb S. Hayes, 33, Topeka, was westbound on Kansas 92 just east of Kansas 4 Highway.
The driver lost control of the motorcycle when he applied brakes hard to avoid striking a westbound 2017 GMC pickup driven by Sean O. Maher, 58, Mc Louth, who was stopped in traffic waiting for a vehicle to turn left onto Greenview Drive.
Hayes and a passenger were both thrown from the motorcycle. Then an eastbound Ford passenger car driven by Tim G. Morrison, 59, Meriden, struck Hayes, and left the road to the right and came to a stop.
Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. EMS transported the motorcycle passenger identified as Katy I. Hayes, 31, Topeka, to Stormont Vail. There were no other injuries. The occupants of the motorcycle were not wearing helmets, according to the KHP.
