Garden City High School evacuated after alleged criminal threat

FINNEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities and USD 457 are investigating a criminal threat at Garden City High School.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Garden City High School received a phone call from an unknown individual indicating there was a bomb inside theschool. Out of an abundance of caution, all students and staff were immediately evacuated and law enforcement was notified.

The Garden City Police Department, Finney County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Finney County Emergency Management, Garden City Fire Department, and Finney County Emergency Medical Services responded accordingly and searched the school to ensure the safety of students and employees.

After a thorough investigation by law enforcement, no threats to the students, staff, or school were discovered, and Garden City

High School was released at its normal dismissal time. The scene was cleared around 3:30 p.m., and no explosives were located.

FINNEY COUNTY —There is a large first responder presence at Garden City High School, 2720 Buffalo Way in Garden City, according to a statement from Garden City Police.

"Out of an abundance of caution, all Garden City High School students and staff have been evacuated from the building. More information will be shared soon. All students are safe, there is no need to pick them up at this time."
