BUTLER COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating an alleged road incident that left a man dead have charged a suspect.
Just after 1 p.m. October 8, police responded to a reported battery at the Jump Start convenience store in the 1600 block of West Central in El Dorado, according to a media release. First responders found 74-year-old Alton Algrim of Leon, Kansas, with injuries in connection with an alleged road rage incident. EMS transported the victim to a Wichita hospital.
Following an investigation, officers arrested 23-year-old Ashton McCoy on requested charges of aggravated battery. The charge against McCoy was amended this week to first-degree murder following Algrim's death. He is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.
Police did not release details on what occurred between the two men or the victim's injuries.
Anyone with additional information in the case is asked to call Detective Devin Haines at (316) 321-9120.
