Suspect charged in deadly mass shooting at Kansas City bar

KANSAS CITY —Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Friday that new criminal charges have been filed in connection with the May 21 fatal mass shootings at the Klymax Lounge in Kansas City.

Isiah D. Clinton, 36, faces three counts of Murder 1st Degree, 2 counts of Assault 1st Degree, and 5 counts of Armed Criminal Action.  A security guard identified as 41-year-old Jason McConnell, 24-year-old Antoinette Brenson and 33-year-old Clarence Henderson all died in the shooting.

According to court records, Kansas City police were  early the morning of May 21, were dispatched to the shooting at the Klymax Lounge nightclub at 4242 Indiana Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located five shooting victims, three who were declared deceased and two who were transported to local hospitals for treatment, where they were listed in critical condition.

On May 22, according to court records, officers on routine patrol in the area of 35th and Prospect identified a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle observed in the area of the Lounge at the time of the shooting. The occupants of the vehicle, including Isiah Clinton, who was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

Charges were filed on July 3, but were placed under seal until Clinton could be apprehended. He was arrested Thursday, and the charging documents are now being made public. Although charges have been filed against Clinton, Kansas City police continue to investigate additional suspects and charges.
