COWLEY COUNTY—Two men are recovering from injuries after a fight in Cowley County and one is now in jail
Just before 7:30p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Arkansas City Police Department and personnel from the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of South H Street following a report of a person with a gunshot wound, according to a media release.
When officers arrived, they located a 57-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. An Arkansas City Police officer immediately applied a tourniquet to help control the victim’s blood loss until Arkansas City Fire/EMS personnel arrived.
Officers also located the suspected shooter, later identified as 69-year-old Curtis Boone, at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates the two individuals, who are father and stepson, became involved in a physical altercation inside the residence. During the disturbance, Boone allegedly produced a firearm and shot the 57-year-old man.
The victim was treated at the scene by the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department before being airlifted by EagleMed to a Wichita hospital for further treatment.
Boone was also evaluated at the scene by the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department and initially declined transportation to the hospital. Later that evening, he sought medical treatment at a local emergency room and was subsequently transferred to a Wichita hospital. On Thursday police arrested him and booked him into the Cowley County Jail on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm while Under the Influence.
