Sheriff: Mother drowns, child rescued from from Kansas creek

COWLEY COUNTY —Authorities investigating a weekend drowning in Kansas have identified the victim as 35-year-old Sarah Ouellet, according to Sheriff Dave Faletti.

Just after 3:30p.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies and EMS were dispatched to the 31000 block of 141st Road for two individuals stranded in the water of Grouse Creek, according to Faletti.

First responders pulled Ouellet  from the water and life saving measures were initiated.

Ouellet’s juvenile son was located downstream holding onto a limb. He was pulled from the water and both he and Sarah were transported to the hospital. Sarah was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, according to Faletti. The child is recovering.

COWLEY COUNTY —A woman drowned over the weekend according to Cowley County Sheriff Dave Faletti.

The drowning occurred Saturday in a creek near the 31000 block of 141st Road east of Arkansas City. According to Faletti, the sheriff's office will release additional on the tragedy later on Monday.
