Out of 93 projects asking for $27 million, the City of Great Bend was one of 32 jobs selected from the Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP) to mill and overlay 2,000 feet of Taxiway next to their recently reconstructed runway at the Great Bend Municipal Airport.
The city was notified of receiving the grant last November and recently received the grant offer from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Venture Corporation will mill and overlay the asphalt project for $130,000 and Cillessen & Sons will paint the pavement markings for $14,460.
Following a massive reconstruction of the major runway that
finished last winter, Great Bend City Councilmember Cory Urban asked Airport
Manager Martin Miller for an update on the status of the runway.
"The only thing I can see that will need some attention is the cross runway, but everything is in pretty good shape," said Miller.
The section of Taxiway asphalt is over 14 years old and will be 90% funded by
KDOT. Without unforeseen change orders, the city share will be $14,446.
The KAIP receives $5 million annually through the IKE transportation program to
construct and rehabilitate general aviation airports.
