DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged home invasion and asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man accused of entering an apartment while the occupants slept Wednesday morning, according to Lawrence Police.
While in the residence, the suspect inappropriately touched a 21-year old woman in her bed.
Just after 4a.m., police were called to the scene in the 2200 block of W. 26th Street, just west of the Dairy Queen at 26th and Iowa, after the victim awoke to a man in her bedroom.
The man fled before police could be called, and while officers were unable to locate the man in the area, the residence was processed for forensic evidence to assist in identification of the suspect.
Detectives are working to identify leads in the case, but are also asking residents in the area to help by checking security cameras and video doorbells for signs of a white man wearing khaki cargo shorts and no shirt between 3 and 4 a.m.
Anyone who has footage to provide, or who may have seen someone in the area matching the description, is asked to contact police dispatch at (785)832-7509. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at (785)843-TIPS(8477).
