KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal crash while fleeing a traffic stop in Kansas City have identified the driver who died as 47-year-old Quintrell D. Monroe, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
Just after 2a.m. Monday in Kansas City, he Missouri Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Monroe that had refused to stop for a traffic violation, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina.
The Jeep was westbound at a high rate of speed on 33rd Street. In the area of 33rd and Indiana, the Jeep traveled off the roadway to the right, struck two telephone poles and then a large tree.
EMS transported Monroe, the sole occupant of the Jeep, to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Monroe was not wearing a seat belt, according to Becchina.
This is Fatality #25 compared to #14 at this time last year. No KCPD officers were directly involved in the pursuit.
