SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Harlan Red Tailed Hawk used for educational programming escaped his enclosure on Monday, according to a social media report from the Midwest Avian Foundation.
The hawk, known as Harley, is a non-released bird and has limited ability to fly. He has likely not gone far from the organization located at 910 S Vassar Street in Wichita, and is probably tucked up in a bush or tree with low hanging branches. "He may soon come out to attempt to hunt and might wind up on the ground."
The organization reported another confirmed sighting of Harley Saturday afternoon in the 200 block of S Terrace in Wichita. This is the same general area as the first sighting, so College Hill and Lincoln Heights .
The bird is wearing leather anklets and 2 straps hanging down, called “jesses."
