Guests evacuated after fire at Kansas hotel

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Guests were evacuated after a fire at a hotel fire in Topeka.

Just  after 10 p.m. Thursday, crews responded to a reported hotel fire at the Quality Inn, 1240 SW Wanamaker Road, according to Department spokesperson Rosie Nichols. 

Firefighters found smoke coming from the north side of the building and identified an Air Conditioning unit on fire.

Crews extinguished the fire and evacuated all three floors of the hotel as smoke was cleared from the building. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire was likely due to an electrical issue, originated in the Air Cconditioning unit.

The total estimated loss associated with the incident is approximately $8,000, with $5,000 associated with structural loss and $3,000 associated with content loss.
