KCPD: Boy critically injured in accidental shooting

KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accidental shooting that sent a boy to the hospital.

Just after 10p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the KC Fire Station located at 6000 block E. Red Bridge in regard to a shooting, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez

Upon arrival the officers discovered a juvenile male under five suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  EMS transported the victim to an area hospital in critical condition. Preliminary investigation reveals the boy picked up an unsecured firearm and accidentally shot himself. 

The Kansas City Police Department reported an accidental shooting on Saturday night that left one boy, under the age of 5, hospitalized with critical injuries.

According to KCPD, officers were dispatched shortly after 10 p.m. to the KC Fire Station at the 6000 block of East Red Bridge Road for a shooting call. When they arrived, officers found a young boy suffering from a gunshot wound

Police said that preliminary investigations revealed the boy had picked up an unsecured firearm and accidentally shot himself.

Emergency responders took the boy to a hospital where he is currently said to be in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing, KCPD said, and the identity of the victim and owner of the firearm has not been revealed
