TOPEKA —The ruling Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel at daybreak Saturday, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea, catching the country off guard on a major holiday. Hundreds were killed or taken hostage. Preliminary reports also indicate at least four American citizens were killed in the attacks.
On Sunday, Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach moved to light Memorial Hall in blue and white as a show of solidarity with Israel, according to a statement from Kobach's office.
Memorial Hall is the state building that houses the Secretary of State and Attorney General offices. He also requested in a letter to the Governor, Kansas Senate President, and Speaker of the Kansas House that the Capitol and other state buildings be illuminated with blue and white lights as well.
"Kansas must stand united with Israel, our democratic ally in the Middle East. The terrorists who attacked Israel hate America too. We must stand with our friends in Israel and recognize that the United States is a target as well," Kobach said.
