The Barton Community College Foundation donates about 1,500 candy bars to brighten the holidays for residents at Ellsworth Correctional Facility and Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility each year, a tradition that has spanned a decade.

The college partners with the Kansas Department of Corrections to offer educational opportunities at the facilities to improve the odds that once residents leave the facility they’ll become productive members of society. Otherwise, a large percentage are likely to return to prison again, a cycle known as recidivism.

The Foundation plays a big part by raising funds for private scholarships to help the residents pay for classes. Learn more about how Barton is helping to break this cycle at bartonccc.edu/breakthecycle.
