Charges filed in KC-area pursuit crash with child in SUV

CASS COUNTY — A driver involved in chase and crash with a child in the SUV near Kansas City has been formally charged.

According to the Cass County Sheriff, 45-year-old Jacob Rullman of St. Joseph has been charged with Resisting Arrest, a Class E Felony. Rullman also faces a first-degree charge for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class D Felony.

Just after 4:30p.m. Monday, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle traveling southbound on 7 Highway near Creighton, according to a media release.

The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The driver, later identified as Rullman, continued throughout the county until a tire deflation device was used near the area of 2 Highway and Kauffman.

Rullman lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a nearby field. As deputies were taking him into custody, they overheard the sounds of a small child from the backseat.

Deputies were able to quickly extract the child from the vehicle. Deputies transported Rullman to an undisclosed hospital for evaluation. The child, who stated she was unharmed, was checked by EMS on scene and safely returned to her mother upon her arrival.

He is being held at the Cass County Jail on a $200,000 cash only bond.
