SHAWNEE COUNTY — A firefighter was injured at a house fire Thursday evening.
Just after 5 p.m. crews responded to a fully involved two-story house fire at 4849 SW 17th Street in Topeka, according to Fire Department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.
After getting the fire under control, the first arriving crew exited the home to trade out air pack bottles before continuing their work. During this time, a Topeka firefighter experienced a medical emergency.
American Medical Response transported the firefighter to a Stormont Vail. The firefighter remains hospitalized and continues to receive care and was being monitored by hospital staff Friday afternoon, according to Fire Department Chief Alan Stahl in a media release.
Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the fire. The total dollar loss from the fire is $65,000.
